Nepal Not To Play Olympic Qualifiers Because Of Financial Problem
It is now clear that Nepal will not compete in the qualifiers because of financial problem.
FIFA has set May 10 as deadline for team entry but the deadline is already missed.
According to All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa, Nepal decided to stay out of the competition as international competitions would be costly. “Competing in international tournaments and Olympics cost a lot and the government does not provide fund for that,” Republica quoted Thapa as saying.
The last time Nepal participated in Olympics qualifiers was in 2003 in home ground during which Nepal played both matches against Palestine at the Dasharath Stadium. Ganesh Lawati scored the only goal from Nepal side.
Nepal didn´t appear in the earlier editions of qualifiers of Asia Cup, Olympics and World Cup stating that it would be too costly.
